* First held in 1933 over 10 furlongs (2000m) when won by Pentheus.

* Distances varied over the years with the race changed from handicap to weight-for-age in 1990 and run over 2020m until 2001 when it reverted to 2200m. Back to 2020m in 2007.

* Notable winners include Beaulivre (1940), Bernborough (1946), Dark Marne (1947), Earlwood (1959-60), Samson (1962), River Seine (1965), Winfreux (1966), Divide And Rule (1970), Tails (1971), Lord Ben (1974), Lord Hybrow (1988), Rough Habit (1991-92-93), Danewin (1995), Juggler (1996), Might And Power (1998), Intergaze (1999), Defier (2004), Scenic Shot (2009).

* Freakish New Zealand galloper Rough Habit captured the imagination of Queensland racing crowds in the 1990s winning two Stradbrokes, two Southport Cups, a Queensland Derby and a record three successive Doomben Cups from 1991 to 1993 after being placed in 1990 at his first attempt.

* Bernborough shouldered 10st 11lb (68.5kg) to victory on his way to winning 15 races in succession.

* The metric record for the Cup at 2020m is held by champion stayer Might And Power who clocked 2:00.53 in 1998.

* Lord Hybrow (1988) and Scenic Shot (2009) are the only horses to complete the Doomben Cup-Brisbane Cup double in the same year.

* Winning trainers with runners this year: Chris Waller – My Kingdom Of Fife, Triple Honour (Metal Bender 2010); Mike Moroney – Glass Harmonium (Sarrera 2008); Daniel Morton – Scenic Shot (Scenic Shot 2009); Graeme Rogerson – Shootoff (Perlin 2005).
